MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow: Backlit & Chanel Inspired Look

As part of their new Fall 2012 collection, MAC released their new Electric Cool eye shadows. These creamy shadows come a range of 12 shades. Backlit appealed to me in its similarity to a Chanel d’ombre illusion I have been admiring since seeing photos of the makeup at Chanel’s Pre Fall Runway show. Backlit is black with multi color glitter which I have used to recreate this look.

I have heard that these shadows vary in texture from shade to shade. Backlit is a dryer cream shadow that has a moldable, putty quality. In the pan these shadows are spongy, said to be “springy” but with not much bounce. When pulling product the shadow sort of dragged. The formula was not very easy to blend on the lid and into the crease, i had to be very precise on my application. I would prefer to use this as a base for shadow especially in this shade. I had to reapply several times to get complete coverage and it did smudge bit. However, I did really like the finishes result, the shimmer being not to prominent, creating a nice look with some depth. I found it best to deposit the shadow onto my lid using my finger and to blend it using a firmer brush.

What I used:

YSL Teint Radiance Foundation in Gold Beige (here)

MAC Blush in Harmony

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer in Medium

MAC Electric Cool eye shadow in Backlit

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Eye Liner in Mat Black

Tarte Lights Camera Lashes Mascara

MAC Lipstick in Viva Glam 2

You look fab here Taylor! I’m not scared of color but I have a hard time working the winged shadow look – you’ve inspired me to give it a shot one more time! :)
