L’Oréal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stains

The L’Oréal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stains, also known as Aqua Lip Shine Stains combine the longevity of a lip stain with the shine of a gloss. Formulated with a blend of nourishing oils, including Omega 3, Vitamin E and Argan oil they deliver hydrating benefits along with concentrated pigmentation.

I had been anticipating the arrival of these Wet Shine Stains to the US for quite some time. The Stains are said to be a dupe for YSL Glossy Stains and after testing them out for myself I can definitely see some significant similarities between the two. But first, the L’Oréal product as it stands alone.

loreal-shine-stain-2L’Oréal Wet Shine Stains feature a triangular doe foot applicator that bends and turns for easier application. The formula is very wet upon application but dries to a the tacky feel of a gloss. I am increasingly impressed by the intense pigment of the two darker shades. One coat delivers opaque color. When layered the color becomes more intense, deeper and glossier. The lighter shade, Pink Resistance applied very sheer and needed a lot of layering to provide significant color. I was so impressed by the length of wear of all three. There is a fruity scent that disappears in time.

The stain lended to streak more on my arm then it did on my lips. The final image shows the product wiped away and the stain left behind. The stain remains even when washed (scrubbed) away.

Pink Resistance is a peachy-pink with shimmer. This lighter shades required much more layering than the two darker shades. Pink Resistance is incredibly sheer and barely visible on my lips. I expected more pink with this color and wasnt too pleased with the orange tones that I was getting.

This is more like it. Infinite Fuchsia is a rich fuchsia shade. This one applied opaque in one swipe and seemed to deliver more shine than the other two. Definitely my favorite in the bunch.

Berry Persistent is a deep berry shade. The color was opaque in one swipe and deepened upon layering, providing further shine. The is one of the two darker shades that very much impressed me. If you are partial to the vampy lip I definitely recommend this one. It appears darker and more intense in person than in my photos. I think the formula was wonderful. For a dupe or on its own it’s a fantastic product. The color lasts for hours without budging.

Comparison:

If you are a fan of the YSL Glossy Stains or prefer a more affordable option, the L’Oréal Shine Stains are definitely worth considering. In some ways I felt the L’Oréal Stains trumped the YSL version. In other ways I felt they fell short. One aspect worth mentioning is the scent. The L’Oréal product has a scent very familiar to YSL lip products. The YSL Glossy Stains however have a significantly stong and unpleasant scent than other YSL lip products and is very much to my dislike. The L’Oréal scent isn’t as strong or appalling to me.

The L’Oréal stains have a more watery, lighter feel and streak less than the YSL which is definitely a plus. The lighter shades of the L’Oréal ar far more sheer than the lighter shades of the YSL. There are some inconsistencies between the shades of the L’Oreal range that aren’t apparent with the more higher-end counterpart. Ultimately the L’Oréal Colour Riche Caresse Shine Stains are definitely worth checking out in my opinion.

Pretty! You wear dark shades so well. I have not tried these yet but I love how wet and glossy they look.

  2. L e n a says:

these shades look marvelous on you!
i think you precisely compared this to YSL glossy stains and i agree with you.
it is true there a few more shades i want from the YSL range but the price point would be really hard to beat. :)

  3. Oh wow, Infinite Fuschia is beautiful – it’s rich and bold without being overpowering. Definitely a drugstore bargain that I could see people paying much more for.

  4. Carina says:

Ahhh, these look so good!! I wish they were available here. You picked awesome shades. :)

  5. I almost bought one of these at CVS the other day!! I’m definitely going to now. You can pull off every lip color under the sun. Btw, love your new layout!

  6. MelissaC says:

Wow, Infinite Fuchsia is to die for!

  7. Daaamn–Infinite Fuchsia looks like liquid vinyl on your lips! That’s incredible! I haven’t tried the YSL ones myself, but I have seen many pics/swatches online and I can see what you mean by it being less streaky. I agree!

  8. Latoya says:

Interesting! I only own one YSL Glossy Stain, and the comparisons you made make me think I should try one of these out too – the streaking does bother me at times. I actually really like the first shade on you a lot Taylor, though I can see it being annoying that you have to layer – and it’s definitely not pink. All in all, I think these were a great purchase!

  9. I love the packaging of this product! Looks so sleek and elegant! I love Glossy stains but I’m not a fan of the scent. It smells like alcohol to me :( But anyway I would still try this product! Thanks for the review :D

  10. I was very curious about the YSL Glossy Stains, but the high price tag prevented me from buying one (with the amount of lip products I have right now, I’m trying to at least finish a whole tube of something before I get anything new…although I do make exceptions for drugstore purchases like these). Infinite Fuchsia is beautiful, I definitely stopped when I got to that picture! Going straight to the top of my wishlist, thanks for the review :)

  11. They look amazing on your lips , I am going to pick mine during next week cause of your post
    Great swatches …

  12. I thought the YSL stains had a weird scent too!! Which was unfortunate for the price. So I guess I’m headed to the drugstore to try these less pricey beauties out. The color payoff looks amazing on you!!

    • I’m glad to hear you say so. I havnt heard anyone else comment on the scent. It reminds me of beer, but not a freshly opened one.. Like a next day old beer. Haha. Thank you. Glad to hear you will be checking them out

  13. Sarah Bella says:

Wow these look lovely! Great review, I love how bright and glossy these colours are. I will definitely be giving them a try! Thanks!

I have this in eternal caramel, a warm honey brown with tiny copper shimmer. Mainly because it looked different from anything else in my collection… Boy, I wish I had picked up some more vibrant shades! Eternal caramel is quite nice, it’s become my go to l/g if I’m in a rush, but I’m definitely going to head back and pick up every single vibrant shade they’ve got! No joke. Lol. Thanks <3

    • Eternal Caramel sounds lovely! The vibrant shades are definitely amazing! I wanted to love the lighter ones more but they were to inconsistent, I’ve been hearing that a lot.. I’m glad to hear.. Thank you! <3

I’ve got this shade in Eternal Caramel, a soft warm honey with tiny copper shimmer. I picked it out because i dont have many nuetral lippies, and im trying to change that. I quite like it on days when I’m in a rush… But oh boy. I have got to go back and pick up every single vibrant shade I can find! Lol no joke!
