My Top 5 Foundations

I frequently get asked here, on My Lucite Dreams, what my favorite foundations are. I can easily understand why this question comes up so often. It’s no easy task coming across the ‘perfect base’, let alone just a ‘good’ one. Testing and trialing foundations has become a sort of obsession to me, a constant quest for the next incredible formula. Through the many I’ve tested I have come across a few gems which I am sharing here today, in my top five round-up.

Now, what works for me might not be the best option for you. Every persons skin is different and with different requirements. I also always say, if you can, try before you buy and look at your skin in every light. I might also add that I personally seek out foundations with dewy and luminous finishes. In no way will I ever choose a base if it does not offer the effect of natural-looking ‘skin’. Whether I seek light or full coverage, I want my skin to look as if I am not wearing any base at all. My skin type is normal/dry with larger pores.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

An all-time favorite base of mine is the NARS Tinted Moisturizer. This base gives you an incredible ‘lit-from-within’ glow that cannot be beat. It has a bit more coverage than your average TM, but is still very light. The formula is creamy and incredibly easy to blend. I actually love the luminous finish in this so much that I will add it to a heavier foundation on days when I seek a bit more coverage.

YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation

Light in coverage, similar to the NARS Tinted Moisturizer. This one has flawless, undetectable coverage with a natural, dewy and radiant finish.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

A full-coverage foundation and the heaviest in the round-up. The Luminous Silk Foundation gives me flawless coverage, while still allowing my skin a natural appearance. While the name says “Luminous”, it has more of a satin finish.

RMS Un-Cover Up

The Un-Cover Up is a concealer as well as a foundation. It delivers medium-full coverage with a dewy finish and a completely natural-looking result. It contains natural and organic skin-healthy ingredients. I am starting to use this quite often to help benefit and care for my skin. I usually just place the product in the places that need some coverage. It’s incredible how it blends into the skin. It works wonders as a concealer alone.

YSL Teint Radiance Foundation

A medium coverage foundation that provides flawless coverage with a radiant finish. It applies beautifully and leaves skin looking like skin.

What are some of your favorite foundations? I would love to hear!

  1. Hey Taylor, thanks for sharing your picks! I haven’t tried any of these and I think it’s about time that I lay my hands on a sample sachet or two! My favorite foundations for the moment are Guerlain Parure de Lumiere and Chanel Vitalumiere Douceur Compact. These are great for autumn/winter because they give a glow that my skin otherwise lacks during the colder months!

  2. I just did my DIY All Natural Foundation tutorial today! Foundation Sunday! 😀 This was really interesting – I’ve only tried one or two out of these, including RMS Un-cover up, which I love! Thanks so much for sharing! xo

      1. I’m so happy you checked it out’ yessss it smells wonderful!! RMS are such a wonderful brand such good people!! Look who’s talking gorgeous!! Xoxo

  3. I’m the same way with trying new formulas, I think foundations are my biggest beauty obsession. Amazingly, I haven’t tried any of these! The RMS Un-Coverup has been on my wishlist for months now, it’ll be one of my next purchases after I use up some of what I have. I really should try the NARS Tinted Moisturizer as well. Lately I’ve been going for more coverage, but I go through phases with my base makeup, and sometimes a tinted moisturizer is all I want. Plus, I love base products that mix well with others. I’ll often mix in regular moisturizer with my foundation, but a tinted mixing option sounds even better

  4. Good to know that you’re also such a fan of Luminious Silk! It’s definitely my next foundation on the list, there are just too many people raving about it.

  5. thanks so much for this post!
my favorite high-end foundation was Dior nude which ran out, now i am using bourjois healthy mix and i enjoy this as much. i’ve been eyeing on YSL foundations for some time. i find your picks and experience with them very helpful!

    1. Hi Lovely Lena! Thanks so much. I’ve always wanted to try the Bourjois Healthy Mix, I think that might be the most successful foundation ever! YSL is definitely a favorite for foundations, they do natural wel. xo

  6. I really want to try RMS. All the products seem to have great reviews. My favorite foundations are Hourglass Immaculate, Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer, Make Up For Ever HD Foundation and Chanel Vitalumiere Compact Foundation.

  7. Oh, thanks for sharing! I love the RMS ‘un’ cover up because of YOU!! I’m interested in the GA Lasting Silk foundation but I need to try it on before purchasing. Sight unseen, my shade is probably either 3.5 or 4.5 but foundations are tricky. Have you tried the Lancome Teint Visionnaire foundation? I sampled it for a few days and the finish is great!

  8. I’m always curious to know what foundations other people love as well! YSL’s touche eclat foundation is also one of my faves, along with Burberry’s sheer luminous foundation, Chanel’s vitalumiere aqua, Le Metier de Beaute’s peau vierge tinted moisturizer (my favorite) and maybe Edward Bess’s sheer satin cream compact foundation to make a top 5. I do want to try RMS’s uncover-up though!

  9. Oh this is a great selection! I’m glad to see you like NARS, I think this will be my next purchase. I’m not really feeling the call/need for a foundation at the moment and this I believe would be nice. 🙂

  10. I love the Touche Eclat! Thank you so much for sharing your list. My favorite would have to be Make Up Forever’s Matte Velvet+. It just works so well on oily skin.

  11. I like the NARS TM as well, and I just ordered the RMS Uncover up (should be getting it soon!) to try for lighter days. I found YSL Teint Radiance to be too heavy after a while, but the finish is really nice!

  12. Loving the sound of this RMS Un-Cover Up! I’ve been wanting to try out the YSL Teint Radiance Foundation for awhile now. Though I’m usually a full-coverage, matte finish lover, I ADORE the NARS Pure Radiant TM! I’m so excited to wear it during the winter, actually, because my skin won’t be as oily. I think my #1 favorite foundation is Guerlain Parure Extreme. It would be right up your alley, ladybug – silky, long-wearing medium coverage with a hint of lit from within radiance. It’s truly incredible! 😀

  13. i used to really like the YSL Teint Radiance! I have luminous silk and like it a lot. Nars is a favorite of mine as well, but I think yoou knew that 🙂 I think you would like Guerlain foundation too, but you also need to try Koh gen do if you haven’t yet!

  14. It sounds like we have similar skin types — which of these, if any, do you find helpful for minimizing the appearance of pores while still only giving very light coverage? Any other tips for that (skincare or makeup)? Thanks!!

  15. Sorry to always ask the same question, Taylor, but what color are you in the GA Luminous Silk? They matched me with 5.5 but it dries sort of rosier/pinker on me! Let me know 🙂

  16. I wonder the same as the one above. What colour do you have in giorgio armani luminous silk? I have a yellow undertone like you.
