Dreamy Picks January 2013

With pleasure, I bid January farewell. It’s long, cold nights are not something I will miss and I welcome the approaching warmer months. I have been introduced to some lovely products these past couple of weeks. Two samples have even found their way into my favorites post, both of which I will be purchasing full-sized versions of – a rarity if I do say so myself. Yay for samples!

Burberry Light Glow Blush in No.04 Peony – This blush has seen lots of wear this past month. The sheer color is perfect for an everyday subtle look. Peony is a gorgeous blue-based pink. (review)

Kahina Giving Beauty Argan Oil – This organic Argan Oil has been a savior to my skin. I apply it to my skin in evenings and mix it into my foundation. No complaints about dry skin since incorporating this beauty into my routine. (product website)

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in #8 – Of course I had to include the new YSL lipstick in my favorites this month. Loving this pale-pink shade for every day. (review)

Becca Shimmering Perfector in Opal – I received this sample along with a Becca purchase I made in December. I mix a bit into my foundation for a natural-glowing finish. I am quite in love with the results and will definitely be picking up a full-sized.

W3LL People Universalist 2 – Another sample, this one I received in a monthly subscription beauty box. This highlighter has replaced my previous favorites. I apply it to the inner corner of my eyes, brow bones, cheekbones, and cupid’s bow. The look is naturally luminous.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink – This liner is long-lasting, always soft, and a dream to use. One of my go-tos for created a winged eyeliner look. Also great for beginners or for those with a shaky hand.

Japonesque HD Dual Sided Brush #110 – I love this brush for applying foundation. One side has natural bristles and the other has synthetic bristles. It gives me a perfect finish. (review soon)

My Lucite Dreams ‘Best of Beauty’ (eyes & lips)

I already covered base in my ‘best of beauty’, now moving on to eyes and lips, this list required a bit more thought. Mascara and eyeliner were easy wins. The Bobbi Brown long-wear gel liner is a pot of gold. Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner has been a favorite for years for its lasting ability and ease of application. Nothing beats L’oreal Voluminous for giving my fine, blonde lashes intense definition. The waterproof formula is a must! Becca won me over this year with their eyeshadow palettes and eye tint in Baroque. Giorgio Armani ‘eyes to kill’ formula is a stunner for an intensely shimmering effect.

Selecting lipsticks to include for this post was easy but narrowing them down was very difficult. I have a great love for lipstick and just had to include all of my favorites. Ultimately YSL Rouge Volupte wins for formula and pigment. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are another favorite, Dragon Girl being the best red. Buxom Big and Healthy Lip glosses are beauties.

BECCA Ultimate Eye Color Quad in Galactica

Becca Cosmetics released four ‘Ultimate Eye Color Quads’ as part of their recent ‘Smoke and Grace Collection’. I first picked up ‘Night Star’ and was so pleased with its performance that I more recently picked it up in Galactica as well. All four palettes are quite irresistable and I found incredibly difficult to choose between them. The luxe palettes contain four complementary shades to color, contour and highlight. The shades of Becca are always tastefully chosen, high quality and rich in pigment easily making me swoon for these new palettes. See these beautiful young woman for look inspiration.

The four shadows are velvet smooth, and blend with great ease. They are highly pigmented although easy to sheer out or layer for a more intense effect. The powder is finely milled and not too soft, there is zero fallout. These shadows are truly a pleasure to work with, this one has become part of my everyday routine. The palette is versatile allowing you to wear both day and night. The shadows combine to make a stunning smokey-eye. I find them to last all day on me.

The four shadows are housed in Becca’s signature rubberized disk. A full mirror lines the underside of the lid. I was quite certain I had snapped photo of this before I got my sloppy paws into it, but it seems that I didn’t. I apologize for the messy photo.

becca-galactica-2  left – right

  • The lightest shade is a metallic champagne peach. The shade is too dark to use as a highlight on my skin tone. I find myself using this daily as an all over eye shadow.
  • The second shade is described on Becca’s website as a metallic brown, I describe it as a metallic copper/bronze. This shade is a beauty and perfect for bringing out green eyes.
  • The third shade is a matte ebony. I will use this either wet or dry to line my eyes.
  • The final shade is a matte dark brown. A beautiful brown that I will use as a contour when creating a smokey-eye look.

Galactica is $40 here and also available at Sephora

Becca Ultimate Color Gloss in Fallen Angel

Becca Ultimate Color Glosses impart bold color and high shine. I picked up the newly released Fallen Angel along with their Ultimate Eye Quad in Night Star (see it here too). The Ultimate glosses provide full-on color without any tacky feel. They cover lips in one swipe giving you an even finish. What I especially loved is the long-wear time. Fallen Angel gave me several hours of wear without requiring any touch-ups. The gloss has a delightful vanilla scent.

Fallen Angel is described as a “nude spice” and is a gorgeous, wearable nude. This shade was released with their ‘Smoke & Grace’ collection and is the perfect accompaniment to a smokey-eye look. The formula is simply divine and along with its long-lasting formula, it is lip gloss at it’s finest!  The ultimate color glosses come in a variety of 10-shades. I adore this gloss and will most definitely be seeking out some other shades for myself. For the ‘lip gloss lovers’ out there this is one to try!

BECCA Ultimate Eye Quad in Night Star

Newly released from Becca, the Smoke & Grace Collection is inspired by understated glamour and classic elegance. Among the item’s released where four Ultimate Eye Color Quads containing four gorgeous shades in matte, demi-matte, and metallic finishes. Each palette contains “a harmonious mix of rich hues to create the perfect new smokey eye.”  One quad allows you to color, contour, and highlight eyes to create looks for both day and night.

I picked up Night Star from the Smoke & Grace collection. The palette contains a selection of cool-toned grey/greens.  The four shadows are highly pigmented and velvety smooth making application a breeze. The quality is top-notch and creating a smokey-eye has never been easier. They blend just beautifully and are easy to build. While they are soft they are not too soft, just the perfect consistency with zero fallout. The four shades worked perfectly together and the look had just the right amount of drama. I took a step out of my comfort zone by choosing this selection of hues but was completely comfortable with the result which was perfectly tasteful. I highly recommend the Eye Quads, they are absolutely stunning, a must!

The lightest shade in the Night Star palette is a white shimmering pearl, perfect for highlighting the eye. The second shade is aMetallic Celadon, the star of the palette. The third shade is an army green which contours beautifully. The last shade is a Jet Black and is perfect for lining the eye.

To create this look I started by applying the second shade all over my lid and into the crease, bringing it under and onto the lower lash line. I then took the third shade and created a v shape into my crease and on my top/outer lash line and outer lower lash line. I then lined my eyes with the fourth shade  using a damp angled liner brush. I finished by applying the first shade onto my brow bone and on the inner corner of my eyes. I am also wearing Becca’s Ultimate Color Gloss in Fallen Angel.

Becca Smoke & Grace Collection feature four Ultimate Eye Quads $40 ea.:

Astro Violet -contains Matte Black Fig, Metallic Plum, Metallic Platinum, and Matte Plum

Eclipsed – contains Metallic Silver, Metallic Champagne, Metallic Khaki, and Metallic Moss

Galactica – contains Matte Ebony, Metallic Peach, Metallic Brown, and Dark Matte Brown

October Favorites

As I write this post we are having our first snow fall here in New York. It doesn’t seem that we are going to catch a break just yet. October has passed in great speed and November has come bringing the long cold nights. I miss the daylight and loathe the sensible coats but welcome the change. I have lots of new loves this past month. Although, new to me, I can see some becoming staples in my collection.  I have been using these five items religiously, and would undoubtedly recommend everything.

  1. Chanel Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base – I have been with this product for about two months now. I love the amount of warmth this bronzer provides to my skin and am crazy for its texture. I use it just about every day for an all over tan or for creating contour to my cheekbones. This product is easy to build, from subtle color to a deeper tan. See my review here.
  2. Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Billionaire – As a departure to your typical dark vampy shades for fall, I love this deep hunter-green from Deborah Lippmann. It is a very wearable and sophisticated color. Like all of DL’s polishes, it goes on like a dream.
  3. Becca Balearic Love Palette – I have been using this trio of shades daily to create a variety of looks, from a natural day-time look to a dramatic night-time look. The color’s are very flattering and very easy to create a smokey-eye look with. The shadows are easy to use and blend beautifully. I also use the lightest shade to fill in my brows. I will absolutely be checking out other Becca eye palettes in the future.
  4. YSL Rouge Volupte in #30 (Faubourg Peach) – I have a great weakness for YSL’s Rouge Volupte Formula. This gorgeous nude-peach has been my go-to shade. I find it very wearable. See my review.
  5. Becca Mineral Blush in Songbird – I picked up this blush slong with the Balearic Love Palette. Becca’s Mineral Blushes are absolutely divine. I would place it among my top 3 favorites just for formula. It provides intense color that lasts all day. Songbird is a peachy-pink shade that brings my complexion back to life.

What are some of your favorite products this past month?

BECCA Mineral Blush in Songbird

Becca Mineral Blush in Songbird has been newly released for fall 2012. Becca’s Mineral blushes are formulated with a Natural Mineral Complex which includes light reflecting Mica. They contain skin-nourishing ingredients and are also infused with antioxidants A, E, and C. They are also free of Parabens, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Alcohol, Oil, Chemical dyes, Talc and other fillers.

This is my first Mineral Blush from Becca and I was quick to fall in love. I loved Becca’s packaging on this. It has a rubberized easy to grab finish that is super durable and hefty. Songbird is described as a Peachy Pink. I describe it as being more as a warm terra-cotta/peach. I was fearful that this shade might appear to orange on me but found that not to be the case at all. It provided my complexion with a great amount of healthy, glowing-warmth. I absolutely loved this shade, (you can see me wearing it here). Songbird is highly pigmented and deposits tons of color, while at the same time it is incredibly easy to blend.

I am a bit hesitant when using a product with shimmer, for fear of it giving me an unnatural glittery appearance. I want a natural glow-from-within look and without any presence of glitter or sparkles. I have to say, that Becca’s micro-particles of shimmer in Songbird did exactly that for me. The powder is finely milled, soft, and utterly delectable. Among all of it’s fabulous attributes, Becca Mineral Blush has a tremendous lasting ability. I have not worn another blush since receiving Songbird. I do highly recommend checking out Becca’s Mineral Blushes.
