DIY At Home Facial

Once a week at-home facials can take your skin care to the next level and deliver tremendous results. While I rely on professional facials for physical extractions, I maintain my skin with a weekly facial to help keep my pores clear and my complexion radiant. I use these five key steps.

Start by giving your skin a thorough ‘double cleansing’. First, remove makeup with a product intended to do just that. Follow up by using your favorite cleanser to completely cleanse the skin.

Use a gentle exfoliator to remove dead skin cells. My preference is one in a powdered form containing enzymes for an added chemical exfoliation, like Brand New Day from One Love Organics. Using your fingertips gently buff away, using small circular motions. Pay attention to areas that are more prone to dryness, and continue down your neck. Exfoliation is a key step in achieving a glowing complexion.

Steaming your skin is a necessary, if often overlooked, step to detoxify the skin and open pores. By opening the pores, your skin will gain the maximum benefits for the next step, when you apply a facial mask. For a ‘no frills’ steam, position yourself over a pot of boiling water (not too close) and place a towel over your head to collect the steam. For extra benefits add in some herbs and essential oils.

Directly after steaming, apply a deep-cleansing face mask, suitable for your skin type. I am a firm believer in the deep-cleansing benefits of clays and activated bamboo charcoal. These two ingredients will help draw out dirt and impurities, and tighten pores. The May Lindstrom’s The Problem Solver and Osmia Organics Detox Exfoliating Mask receive my highest recommendations.

Facial Massage:

A Facial Massage boosts circulation and stimulates the muscles and lymphatic system. By stimulating the facial muscles, you relieve tension and work to literally iron out fine lines. As you stimulate the lymphatic system you drain out toxins, reliving puffiness, which is incredibly beneficial for the eye area. The result is instant as your skin will appear smoother with a youthful radiance. All you need is a few minutes and your favorite face oil. Into the Gloss posted a how-to video that best shows how to perform a personal facial massage.

If you take the time to love your skin, your skin will love you back. By performing a ritual of pampering yourself, you promote feelings of self-love. Taking time to care for yourself is never selfish, but an integral part of our well-being. If a 5-step facial doesn’t agree with your schedule, break up the routine. Apply a mask post-shower or perform a facial massage in the evenings at bedtime. Whatever you can do, is better than nothing. Commit to skin-care.

Lina Hanson’s Global Face Serum

Lina Hanson’s Global Face Serum* will be the key player in my fall skin care lineup. This golden-hued oil was formulated to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, reduce inflammation and skin irritation, restore skin’s elasticity, and improve the overall complexion. It additionally contains an intoxicating blend of essential oils known to uplift mood, relieve anxiety and promote a sense of positive wellbeing.

Founder, Lina Hanson has traveled the globe carefully selecting all the oils featured in the Global Face Serum. Each ingredient used is sustainable, ethically sourced, and certified organic.

Ingredients: andansonia digitata (baobab) seed oil, argania spinosa (argan) nut oil*, sclerocarya birrea (marula) kernel oil*, camellia oleifera (camellia) seed oil*, cucurbita maxima (pumpkin) seed oil*, bertholletia excelsa (brazil) nut oil, tocopherol (vitamin e), citrus reticulata (mandarin) oil*, citrus aurantium amara, (neroli) oil, boswellia carteri (frankincense) oil*, cymbopogen martinii (palmarosa) oil*, cananga odorata (ylang ylang) oil*

This symphony of precious oils combine to deliver one healthy dose of hydration. After several weeks of use, my skin is singing praise by revealing an undeniable glow. My complexion seems brighter, softer and more supple. I can even admit, that I have been reaching for tinted moisturizers over my heavier foundation formulas.

Just a small amount covers the skin with a veil of luminous hydration. I apply the Serum, both morning and night, to clean, damp skin. The blend of essential oils create an intoxicating aromatic experience, which lifts your mood. The Serum works beautifully under makeup, once it has absorbed. The Global Face Serum absorbs quickly and will not leave behind any greasy residue.

When people ask me why my skin is so glowy, I say it’s the Lina Hanson Global Face Serum. I full-heartedly recommend this gem, as it has become one of my most loved serums.

One huge standout these past couple of months is the S.W. Basics Toner. This products alone has completely cured a nasty bout of Seborrheic Dermatitis that I was dealing with. Kahina Giving Beauty Argan Oil

You might have seen some mentions of Kahina’s Argan Oil over the past month on My Lucite Dreams. I have been anxious to share with you my thoughts on this little bottle of “liquid gold”. This 100% organic argan oil has been a savior to my skin this winter. Before my review I just want to mention a few words about Kahina, argan oil, and the superior quality of their products.

What is argan oil?

Argan oil has been used for centuries by the indigenous woman of Morocco to protect their skin from the harsh desert conditions. Sourced from the nuts and antioxidant-rich byproducts of the argan tree, “argan oil is composed of a high percentage of vitamin E (more than twice as much as olive oil). The remainder of the oil is made up of 80% fatty acids, including hard to obtain Omega 6 and Omega 9 acids.”

Argan Oil can be used in a variety of ways to moisturize and treat skin conditions head to toe. The high levels of antioxidants and vitamin E help to protect skin from environmental factors, minimize fine lines, restore elasticity, improve skin tone and sooth skin irritations.

Kahina Giving Beauty:

Founder and CEO Katherine L’Heureux plays an active role in sourcing the nuts to be used in production of the oil. By being physically present regularly in the harvesting and production processes, Katherine ensures only top quality oil. By using nuts only with the pulp intact, Kahina produces a higher quality oil than lesser grade oils that use “goat nuts” in their production.

Kahina Giving Beauty consciously works to improve the lives of the Berber woman of Morocco who do the hard work of extracting the oil from the nut. Kahina actively supports the Berber woman by ensuring fair wages, ethical treatment and by providing the women and their communities with funding and donations.

The argan oil is housed in violet glass packaging to preserve the integrity of the nutrients and antioxidants of the oil. A glass dropper dispenses the oil, keeping the bottle free on any contamination, as well as allowing you more control of how much you use. You will be amazed at how much just one drop will do. To me, the oil has a light scent slightly reminiscent of olive oil.

Kahina’s Argan oil can be used in a number of ways on the face, hair and body. I find it extremely versatile and beneficial at a variety of tasks. I continue to find uses for this little miracle oil even after a months passing. Here is a list of some ways I use it:

  • As a facial moisturizer.
  • Applied as a body oil, concentrating on areas that require a little more attention (three days to buttery smooth elbows!).
  • To moisturize hands and cuticles.
  • On hair to relieve frizz and add shine. I apply it to damp hair starting at the ends, working my way up. I also will use it after styling and to smooth fly-aways. It makes hair healthier and sleeker without weighing it down.
  • At night to moisturize my eye lashes and brows.
  • Mixed into my foundation to add some extra moisture and to allow better application, as suggested by Kahina PR. I absolutely love to use the oil this way.
  • Added to powder makeup to create cream products and to create a glow.

Kahina’s Argan oil has been nothing short of a miracle to my dry skin. I use it everyday after cleansing, with or without moisturizer. Just two drops is sufficient enough to moisturize the entire face and neck. With a pressing motion I place the oil onto my skin. It absorbs incredibly fast, imparting a glowing complexion (not greasy in any sense). My skin is intensely moisturized and any dehydration lines disappear giving me a overall more youthful appearance. In a matter of days, that dry and uncomfortable skin has gone away, along with some bumps along my jawline.

Kahina’s Argan Oil has found a place amidst my very short list of absolute must-haves. I highly recommend this oil to anyone and not just to those with dry skin. However, dry-skinned girls rejoice!

Kahina Giving Beauty Argan Oil comes in two sizes.
