Dreamy Picks May 2014

Here are a few of my product crushes for the month of May…

  • Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Blue Orchid offers incredible wear and has been my go-to shade this spring. (review) (buy)
  • The LORAC SummerGLO Palette* is a staple in my travel bag this summer. I’ve been using this one for a neutral look, as well as when I want to play around with color. (review) (look) (buy)
  • I can thank the Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Active Moisture Vitamin C Body Oil* for my super soft skin. I sort of can’t keep my hands off myself. The pineapple scent is perfect for summer and puts a skip in my step. (review) (buy)
  • I’m still crazy for the RMS Buriti Bronzer and depend of this beauty to liven up my complexion. It’s a true-bronze shade that illuminates skin. (review) (buy)
  • The Kjaer Weis Foundation is pretty amazing and unlike any foundation I have tried before. Most of the time I’m reaching for my natural foundations to further care for my skin. The KW Foundation provides medium coverage and is nearly invisible on the skin. I will be reviewing this one soon. (buy)
  • I purchased the Juara Candlenut Perfume Oil the instant I smelled it, which is a first. I usually require some time to see how the fragrance evolves and if it ultimately irritates my keen scenes of smell. I knew it would be love, and I am so right. Meet my new summer fragrance. (full review soon)
  • LORAC Alter Ego Lipstick in Girl Next Door* is such a beautiful light coral/pink. I love the long-wear matte formula. (review) (buy)

LORAC SummerGlo Eye Shadow Palette (review & swatches)

Lorac has created yet another ‘must-have’ with their SummerGlo Eye Shadow Palette. This palette contains a selection of 10 shimmering and matte shades to create a multitude of looks for both day and night. The SummerGlo Palette will surely become your staple this summer.

While the SummerGlo Palette’s brights are certainly a stand-out, the neutral shades deserve a mention all their own. The combination of creams, browns and golds in a stunning luminous texture, makes this palette a must for the neutral shades alone. The addition of four beautiful brights makes this palette utterly swoon-worthy. As a girl who most often opts for a natural look, this palette had me playing with color like nobody’s business.

  1. white (matte)
  2. light brown (matte)
  3. coral (matte)
  4. iridescent light purple
  5. aqua blue (shimmer)
  6. light gold (shimmer)
  7. light bronze (shimmer)
  8. light teal (shimmer)
  9. medium nutmeg brown (matte)
  10. light peachy-nude (matte)

Lorac refers to some of these shades as ‘matte’, although I have trouble labeling them as so due to their luminous finish. The finish creates a glow and does not lay flat in any sense. I find myself opting for these on a daily basis. The shimmery shades all contain fine shimmer, except for #7 which has some larger flecks of glitter. The shadow’s in the SummerGlo palette are more dense and have a lighter texture than those in the PRO Palette. All shadow’s performed beautifully except for #6 which had some fall-out. With the SummerGlo Palette the looks are endless and I am smitten. All in all, the new palette is an absolute must!

Lorac Close Up Real Life to Red Carpet Pro Face Tutorial

The latest addition to the LORAC PRO Face Tutorial series features everything you need to create a natural day to dramatic night look. The kit contains 5 products, including a full-sized blush, full-sized mascara, mini eye shadow palette, full-sized lip gloss and a mini makeup primer. Also included is a two page tutorial on how to apply all products for a day time look or a dramatic nighttime look.

The Lorac Pro Face Tutorial Set Includes:

  • Mini Pro Palette with the shades Beige, Light Brown, Espresso
  • Travel-Size POREfection Mattifying Face Primer
  • PRO Mascara
  • Lip Lustre Lip Gloss in Peach Lustre
  • PRO Powder Cheek Stain in Rosy Glow

lorac-face-set-3This sweet mini PRO Palette contains a neutral trio of shades. If your familiar with the Lorac PRO quality, than you will know just how buttery soft and pigmented these shadows are. Beige is a shimmering champagne and perfect when used as a highlight, although does create some fallout. Light Brown is a neutral light brown and adds perfect dimension when added into the crease. Espresso is a dark brown which is rich enough to use as a liner and intensified when wet.

lorac-face-set-4The PRO Powder Cheek stain is loaded with pigment although blends beautifully. One swipe is really all it takes, while its lasting power is exceptional. Rosy Glow adds a gorgeous rosy flush to your complexion. A small amount of shimmer translates to skin as a radiant finish. I’m fairly certain that this is the beginning of a new blush formula crush.

For me, I don’t think that this gloss could be more perfect. The Lustre Lip Gloss in Peach Lustre is a beautiful peach shade with a stunning shimmer finish that creates a 3D effect. It’s a high-shine gloss that feels less sticky and more soft with a long wear time. Luckily the shimmer doesn’t travel beyond your lips. There is a slight gritty feel when you rub your lips together due to the high amount of shimmer. Without a doubt, the Lustre Lip Gloss is certainly a new favorite.

The PRO Mascara ia a thickening and lengthening, smudge-proof formula. The bulbous end is designed to coat lashes from root to tip. I find myself hesitant to bring the larger end closer to my eye. Lashes look longer and thicker with a lovely effect. The formula doesnt budge or smudge. My major qualm, as with all mascaras, is that it failed to hold my curl.

A Makeup Look using the Lorac PRO Palette *Gilded*

I reviewed the Lorac PRO palette yesterday. As promised, here is a look that I have created using some of the shades. Let me say that I achieved this look with great ease. The performance of these shadows is exceptional, requiring only a small amount of blending. My look will hopefully show just how pigmented these shadows are or provide some inspiration.

The eyes:

  • With a MAC 217 I applied taupe all over the lid, into the crease, and outwards. With a smaller brush I brought the same shadow onto the outer third of my lower lash line.
  • Using a denser brush for heavier application, I picked up gold and patted onto the entire lid and slightly into crease.
  • With the same MAC 217 as before, I blended the gold well over the lid, into the crease, and outwards. With I smaller brush I brought the gold underneath as well.
  • I then took cream and applied it to my brow bone using a clean MAC 217.
  • With the same brush I applied nude on the inner corners of eyes, bringing it underneath onto my lower lash line and blended it into the gold shade.
  • For a liner I used Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink and applied it using a MAC 209.
  • To finish it off, I curled my lashes and applied L’oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara.

lorac-pro-palette-look-2Also used:

YSL Teint Radiance Foudation in #7, It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye in light/medium, NYX Taupe Blush as contour, Burberry Sheer Glow Blush in Peony, YSL Rouge Volupte #1, W3LL People Universalist 2 on center of bottom lip and cupid’s bow

Will you be picking up the Lorac Pro Palette?

The Lorac PRO Palette contains 16 intensely pigmented shadows each infused with soothing botanicals. Featuring eight matte and eight shimmering shades it is designed to shade, shadow, line and define your eyes in one easy palette. In addition it contains a mini Behind The Scenes Eye Primer.

The packaging is straight and to the point with a rubberized finish and bold silver lettering. The palette flips open with great ease and stays shut with a magnetic closure. The top row contains the eight matte shades and on the bottom, the eight shimmering shades. Marked underneath each shadow is their name, again, straight to the point and free of any misconceptions. Cream is cream, light pink is a light pink, gold is gold and so on.

lorac pro palette

My personal introduction to the Lorac Brand began when I picked up this much hyped about palette. I love a neutral palette and this selection of 16 shades had me swooning. This wonderful assortment of both matte and shimmering shades can create a variety of looks for both day and night. What has me the most impressed is the exceptional quality of these eye shadows. They are among the best that I have tried.

The left side contains the lighter shades for highlighting or base. The colors deepen as you move to the right side of the palette. White, cream, light pink, nude and champagne are all great for highlighting. Taupe is a gorgeous shade that I will wear alone for everyday. The gold is intense and I will layer it over taupe. Light bronze is a gorgeous shimmery shade for day.

lorac-pro-palette-6While the palette features mostly neutral shades, deep purple is an exception and a lovely addition. Mauve and sable are two other shades that I love for everyday. Pewter layered on top of mauve is simply stunning. Garnet mixed along with gold creates a bold metallic gold finish that makes my green eyes pop. Espresso and black are perfect for lining and work exceptionally well when wet. Slate creates a dramatic smokey eye when mixed with black. Deep purple is a shade I have yet to familiarize myself with.

The mattes are highly pigmented, easy to apply and a dream to blend. The velvety texture lends the matte shadows a gleaming quality. They appear to have an almost creamy finish. All shades have zero fallout and lasts me all day. White contains some amount of shimmer and along with light pink, these two are a bit more powdery. One layer provides an exceptional amount of pigmentation alone. The matte shadows are definitely a highlight of this palette.

lorac-pro-palette-8The shimmering shadows are more metallic and free of any glitter. Like the matte shades these are exceptionally pigmented and velvety smooth. They are a dream to blend and the effects are positively dazzling. One swipe provides ample coverage, when layered the look is intense. Gold and garnet are definitely two of my favorites. I will post a look to follow.

Lorac’s Behind the Scenes Eye Shadow Primer is a wonderful product as well. It is transparent and pretty much undetectable on. It intensifies the shadow in both finish and wear. While I am not a big fan of eye primers, this one has me seriously considering purchasing a full size.

This palette was an absolute winner in so many ways. In my opinion it easily trumps some of the more popular neutral palettes out there. At $42 for 16 shades it’s an incredible value. If you only need one palette, this is it!
