Givenchy Le Rouge Intense Color Sensuously Matte Lipstick #209 Rose D’Exception for Fall 2013

Thy Givenchy Le Rouge Intense Color Sensuously Matte Lipstick is the fairest of them all. Encased in genuine leather, the ultra-luxe Le Rouge Lipstick from Givenchy doubles as a uber chic accessory. Rose D’Excpetion is one of two ‘limited edition’ shades from their latest Soir D’Excpetion Collection for Fall. Rose D’Exception Le Rouge was released with a matching Givenchy Le Vernis of the same shade.

I must admit that when I was first introduced to the new Le Rouge lipstick from Givenchy along with the leather bullet and pyramid studding, I thought, “they have gone too far”. As time passed, the idea seemed less outrageous. I might even admit that my curiosity was eventually piqued, although I still didnt cave. Be that as it may, Givenchy then released the perfect “Taylor shade” in an even more attractive metallic leather case and they threw in a matching polish! Call me a sucker, I caved big time.

Rose D’Exception Le Rouge comes in a ‘limited edition’ metallic pebbled leather case with their traditional silver pyramid studding. What is even more beautiful than the bullet is the exquisite formula. Described as a ‘semi-matte‘ lipstick, Le Rouge is unlike any other matte lipstick that you might be familiar with. Rose D’Exception provides full color in one swipe, like a matte formula but without any of the dryness. I will even go as far as saying that it’s hydrating. It glides on without the slightest pull, leaving soft, silky color that lasts through hours of wear.

The swatch above was created with just one swipe. It’s seriously like butter. Rose D’Exception is described as a soft rosy pink. I think it leans a little cooler and lighter than your traditional rosy lipsticks. This shade is utter perfection and perfect for fall, think ‘nudes’ and ‘lilac-tones’. Rose D’Exception Le Vernis is a perfect pairing, if only slightly deeper. The only downside is that it’s LE, so grab it while you can!

LORAC PRO Palette

The Lorac PRO Palette contains 16 intensely pigmented shadows each infused with soothing botanicals. Featuring eight matte and eight shimmering shades it is designed to shade, shadow, line and define your eyes in one easy palette. In addition it contains a mini Behind The Scenes Eye Primer.

The packaging is straight and to the point with a rubberized finish and bold silver lettering. The palette flips open with great ease and stays shut with a magnetic closure. The top row contains the eight matte shades and on the bottom, the eight shimmering shades. Marked underneath each shadow is their name, again, straight to the point and free of any misconceptions. Cream is cream, light pink is a light pink, gold is gold and so on.

lorac pro palette

My personal introduction to the Lorac Brand began when I picked up this much hyped about palette. I love a neutral palette and this selection of 16 shades had me swooning. This wonderful assortment of both matte and shimmering shades can create a variety of looks for both day and night. What has me the most impressed is the exceptional quality of these eye shadows. They are among the best that I have tried.

lorac-pro-palette-4

The left side contains the lighter shades for highlighting or base. The colors deepen as you move to the right side of the palette. White, cream, light pink, nude and champagne are all great for highlighting. Taupe is a gorgeous shade that I will wear alone for everyday. The gold is intense and I will layer it over taupe. Light bronze is a gorgeous shimmery shade for day.

lorac-pro-palette-6While the palette features mostly neutral shades, deep purple is an exception and a lovely addition. Mauve and sable are two other shades that I love for everyday. Pewter layered on top of mauve is simply stunning. Garnet mixed along with gold creates a bold metallic gold finish that makes my green eyes pop. Espresso and black are perfect for lining and work exceptionally well when wet. Slate creates a dramatic smokey eye when mixed with black. Deep purple is a shade I have yet to familiarize myself with.

lorac-pro-palette-7

The mattes are highly pigmented, easy to apply and a dream to blend. The velvety texture lends the matte shadows a gleaming quality. They appear to have an almost creamy finish. All shades have zero fallout and lasts me all day. White contains some amount of shimmer and along with light pink, these two are a bit more powdery. One layer provides an exceptional amount of pigmentation alone. The matte shadows are definitely a highlight of this palette.

lorac-pro-palette-8The shimmering shadows are more metallic and free of any glitter. Like the matte shades these are exceptionally pigmented and velvety smooth. They are a dream to blend and the effects are positively dazzling. One swipe provides ample coverage, when layered the look is intense. Gold and garnet are definitely two of my favorites. I will post a look to follow.

Lorac’s Behind the Scenes Eye Shadow Primer is a wonderful product as well. It is transparent and pretty much undetectable on. It intensifies the shadow in both finish and wear. While I am not a big fan of eye primers, this one has me seriously considering purchasing a full size.

This palette was an absolute winner in so many ways. In my opinion it easily trumps some of the more popular neutral palettes out there. At $42 for 16 shades it’s an incredible value. If you only need one palette, this is it!

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils in Bettina and Damned

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are a matte lipstick in an easy to use jumbo crayon form. These lip pencils can worn as a lipstick,  used as a liner (which Bettina is pefect for), or worn under lipstick for longevity. They apply smooth with no pulling, feeling creamy and soft while giving you a matte finish. The formula is long-lasting and non-drying. The pencil needs to be manually sharpened and will fit into most jumbo sized makeup pencil sharpeners (NARS has one available). They come in a variety of 17 shades.

Bettina is the perfect beige/nude pink with a subtle frost. It is a gorgeous, non corpse-like, wearable nude worn alone and serves as a great neutral base. It is also makes a great nude-tone lip liner. I am almost never without this one. Photo shows exact tone.

Damned is a very wearable deep magenta, berry-tone. Photo shows exact tone.

Dark Lip Trend – How to get it

A very unexpected look this summer among this season’s hottest trends is the dark lip. We saw it come to a head at this year’s MET gala. This look is sophisticated and chic, a great alternative to a red lip. This bold lip trend ranges from deep shades of burgundy, brown, purple, plum, and flat black. This dark lip color looks great with a tan, which also makes it more wearable. To keep it fresh, pair it with a white shirt, it’s a great look. I picked out a few of my favorite tones and formulas to help guide you and included some products to complete the look. I recommend using a lip liner with this look for a clean line, such as MAC longwear lip pencil in Absolutely It.

  1. Nars Pure Matte Lip Pencil in Damned – a very wearable deep magenta (my pick)  (sephora.com)
  2. Chanel Rouge Coco #29 Ballet Russe (chanel.com)
  3. MAC Lipstick in Film Noir – a deep brown  (maccosmetics.com)
  4. Nars Lipstick Vendanges – an easy to wear sheer grape shade (sephora.com)
  5. Yves Saint Laurent in 8 Rouge Pur Couture – a deep red/purple – (yslbeautyus.com)

When wearing this trend I chose to keep the rest of my face fairly simple. Choose peach, pink, or nude beiges on the eyes and warm up the cheeks with a nude blush. Match your lips with a deep plum nail polish or lighten it up with a beige pink. Brighten up your complexion with a natural looking highlighter.

  1. MAKE UP FOR EVER  Eyeshadow in Pearly Peach  153 – a peach gold shimmer (sephora.com)
  2. Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Monogamous – a pale milky pink (sephora.com)
  3. Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Dark Side of the Moon – a deep aubergine (beauty.com)
  4. Benefit High Beam Highlighter – (benefitcosmetics.com)
  5. Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Exposed – a warm nude (tartecosmetics.com)
  6. MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Liner in 13 Mat Black (sephora.com)

Will you be wearing this season’s dark lip trend?

the Balm Meet Matt(e) Eyeshadow Palette

The Meet Matte Palette from the Balm is a varied collection of matte eye shadows. The palette is a 3 1/2  by 3 1/2 cardboard square that flips opens like book to reveal a mirror while a magnet holds it closed. The eye shadows in this collection are buttery smooth, silky and super easy to work with. The colors are highly pigmented and allow you to blend seamlessly. If you are into matte eyeshadow and like to change up your look then this is the palette for you.

There is a great selection of colors in this set that can create endless looks with both warm and cool tones. Matt Smith and Matt Chung are two great options for a base. Matt Gallagher is the perfect crease color and among my favorites. To create some depth along with Gallagher,  Matt Patel and Matt Ramirez are great options to add to the outer crease. Matt McDonald is great for a grey smokey look. For a blue smokey look Matt Shilling and Horowitz work great together. The options are truly endless. All is all this is a great palette of high quality shadows that I recommend.

  • Matt Smith –  a matte light beige (great base color)
  • Matt Gallagher -a matte  medium brown, toast
  • Matt Ramirez – a matte cool dark brown
  • Matt McDonald – a steel-blue grey with pearl sheen
  • Matt Horrowitz – a deep blue
  • Matt Chung – light pale pink
  • Matt Batali – a rich dark eggplant, plum
  • Matt Schilling – a matte teal
  • Matt Patel – a matte mauve with brown

I created this look by applying Matt Chung all over my lid into my brow bone. I then added Matt Gallagher into the crease along with Matt Batali to the outer edge of my crease creating a v-shape and sweeping it under my eye as well.
