Current Skin Care Routine July 2017

My skin has been very happy this summer, which is not always the case. With travel, exposure to the sun and chlorine pools, my skin tends to become quite stressed. Yet with my current routine and diligence, my skin is thriving through the stressors. I’m always quite regular in my routine, only changing up masks according to my needs and occasionally switching up moisturizers in regard to the days activities. One important change I’ve made is that I’ve ridded my routine of harsh cleansers – anything that makes my skin feel “squeaky clean” is gone from my daily regimen and replaced with only the gentlest and most hydrating options. This has made a tremendous difference in my dry skin, which never feels dry these days but quite dewy actually.

Even though its mid-summer, my skin still craves layers. Ultra nourishing oils, always topped with a water-based moisturizer works best for me.

Kumari Luxury Oil Treatment for all Hair Types*

I’ve had the blessed opportunity over the years to sample some incredible products from amazing brands. While I have sampled my fair share of duds that don’t even make it to the achieves of MLD, my heart still races when I come across that certain gem. This reassures me that the ‘beauty enthusiast’ inside me is still very much alive and well. Kumari Luxury’s line of body and skin care has wowed me since day one. The certain gem that I am referring to today, is their Hair Oil Treatment. With an exemplary formula comprised of Ayurvedic oils, this is the ‘mother’ of hair oils.

Kumari Luxury Hair Oil Treatment was inspired by founder, Aarti Gala’s Indian heritage and a sweet beauty ritual passed down from her mother.

“When I was young, my mother always showed me the importance of taking time to enjoy the moment. Every week, she would break away from her busy schedule for a little ritual that I still remember to this day. At the end of a long day, she would put everything aside, take out her amazing Ayurvedic hair oils from India, and massage oil into my hair before sending me off to sleep. Those cherished moments, the happy silence, the fragrance of the hair oil, and the feeling of absolute comfort and relaxation are what led me to create Kumari Luxury.” – Aarti Gala

The Luxury Hair Oil contains a blend of all natural and organic oils, spices, and essential oils and smells of Kumari’s signature sandalwood and magnolia fragrance.

Ingredients: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Nut Oil*, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Magnolia Acuminata Extract, Santalum Spicatum (Sandalwood), Eclipta Alba*, Rubia Cordifolia*, Sida Cordifolia*, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric)*, Glycrrhiza Glabra (Licorice)*, Hemidesmus Indicus Root*, Withania Somnifera* and Messua Ferra (Saffron). *Certified Organic Ingredients

Kumari’s Luxury Oil Treatment is a pre-shampoo treatment, and suggested to be worn overnight for best results. Simply use the dropper to apply the treatment directly to the scalp, then continue to coat the hair from roots to tips. Generally we are told to apply hair treatment oils to the ends of hair, avoiding the scalp. As someone who has a generous accumulation of oils on their scalp already, I was a bit apprehensive about this step. I know by logic that oil repels oil, but even so, I feared the state of my hair post shampoo. As the good beauty guinea pig that I am, I ensued with great measure.

What makes Kumari’s Hair Oil Treatment different? A surprising ascertainment that I gained when using the oil, is that while your hair is surely coated, it doesn’t feel greasy, to my surprise. I felt no reservation when laying my head to my pillow at night. There was no surplus of oils leaving behind an oil slick, nor did I feel at any time uncomfortably greasy. Not to mention the magnolia and sandalwood fragrance, while not overbearing, is utterly exquisite. The oil treatment easily washes away with one shampoo, leaving no residue behind. You can go about your day as planned, with only the added addition of lustrous, healthy, and more manageable locks. Not to mention, the treatment has helped to neutralize the oils in my scalp, leaving it more balanced. My hair blows out more quickly after use, and the damage I have endured from heat styling is reversed. I use this treatment weekly to keep my hair in its best shape. This oil is perfect for anyone seeking healthy shiny hair, no matter your hair type.

Uma Pure Energy Wellness Oil* and Giveaway

Today, we’re talking aromatherapy. How I have personally incorporated them into my life, their benefits, and why they work. I’m also shining a light onto one incredible farm-to-bottle brand that creates exceptionally potent formulas.

The olfactory sense is 10,000 times more sensitive than any other senses. Our response to smell is immediate, as it directly extends to the brain and to our central nervous system. Scents can have a powerful impact on our well-being. It can arouse strong emotions, that can be both positive and/or negative. This is where aromatherapy comes in.

My introduction to aromatherapy began in my early teens. I suffered from anxiety, panic and sleep disturbances since a young age. A dear friend, whose father practiced a holistic lifestyle, gifted me a bottle of lavender oil. It was then, that I learned just how powerful plant-derived essences can be. I began a journey into the world of aromatherapy, researching different essences and creating my own blends. I also learned that not all oils are alike, and that is important to find a brand that carefully bottles up essences in their purest forms.

I present to you Uma Oil difference.

Uma is a line of luxury skincare and wellness oils of 100% natural and organic origin. What makes Uma Oils different? Uma’s blend of essential oils are grown, extracted, formulated and bottled entirely on the family estate of founder, Shrankhla Holecek. Every process from seed to bottle is overseen by Uma’s team of experts. Great care is placed upon seed selection, while each plant is only harvested twice before replanting, thus yielding the highest quality essential oils. The essential oils are blended with the minimal amount of carrier oil for the most potent, high impact blend of essential oils. They also win for most aesthetically pleasing packaging.

After speaking with the company, we decided that the Pure Energy Wellness Oil* would be the perfect match for me. As someone who now suffers with Chronic Fatigue, along with Fibromyalgia, this energizing blend of oils seemed like just the boost I needed.

The Pure Energy Wellness oil* contains rosemary, ylang ylang, frankincense, patchouli, peppermint, ginger, basil, clary sage, and jasmine essential oils, in a jojoba and evening primrose base. This blend was created to naturally fight fatigue, boost energy, stimulate mental alertness, and to be used as a natural alternative to caffeine.

My day starts by applying Pure Energy to the bottoms of my feet, and pulse points (as suggested). I then take a moment to inhale deeply and gather myself. A little goes a long way, as this formula is indeed potent. I imagine that the 1 oz. bottle will last me quite a while. Pure Energy undoubtedly provides me with a well needed energy boost. It works in ways caffeine can’t, without the side effects, and the results are instantaneous. This blend helps to wash away my mental fog, leaving me more focused, and more productive at work (for that I’m eternally grateful). It a great option for an afternoon pick-me-up, pre and post-workout boost, for use during a cleanse, and any other time you just need a healthy boost. It’s no doubt that Uma Oils are of exceptional quality and that their blends are thoughtfully created.

Dreamy Picks: March

  • Lina Hanson recently debuted her Satori Perfume Oil, as I reviewed here. This blend of warm vanilla, sandalwood, yuzu and ginger is utterly intoxicating, and an easy stand-out amid my favorites for the month.
  • Au Naturale’s Lipstick in Innocence has been my daily go-to since I first got my hands on it. It’s the perfect soft pink and has a balmy texture. I’m nearly close to finishing it, which is something I’ve only done once before. If your curious as to what that lipstick was, it was MAC Bubbles. I was 16 and had a white, shimmery pout and I loved it.
  • Jane Iredale’s Lip Definers are deliciously creamy, a favorite formula for sure. The shade Spice is the perfect pinky-nude, that is just a touch deeper than my natural lip color. It pairs brilliantly with Au Naturale Innocence.
  • Kari Gran Lip Whips are a divine treat for your pout. The shade Radiance is a beautiful glossy pink, that is perfect on it own, or layered over any lip shade. (review)
  • Prickly Pear Seed Oil is having moment. I am unequivocally a devout fan of this precious wonder oil (review). I apply Kahina’s Pricky Pear Seed Oil to my eye area, both day and night. The results have been nothing short of a miracle. My under eye area has significantly lightened, so much so, that I have been able to switch up my under-eye concealer to one that offers less coverage. Which leads me to…
  • Though not nearly short on coverage, the RMS “Un” Cover Up is a brilliant under-eye concealer. It’s no secret, as this product is highly coveted by the industry elites. It covers, yet offers an undetectable finish ‘goals’. I do like to set the ‘Un” Cover Up with the RMS “Un” Powder, as the formula is quite creamy. (review)
  • Speaking of “undetectable finishes”, I introduce you to the ‘mother’. The Gressa Minimalist Serum Foundation is one ingenious formula. Forget that it’s completely natural, forget that it is actually good for your skin. This formula trumps all serum foundations on the market today, be it ‘clean’ or not. Two to three drops is all that is needed. It glides across your face with no effort at all, leaving behind the most natural coverage. I am currently wearing a mix of shades 3 and 4.
  • Kumari Luxury Sandalwood and Magnolia Body Oil makes me feel as though I’m spoiling myself on the regular. I am smitten with the fragrance of this oil, and of course I adore how it nourishes my skin. (review)
  • I have recently posted about the Imbibe Pearl Essence Cleansing Mineral Treatment. This  powdered cleanser effectively washes away impurities in the most gentlest way. I’ve been adding this versatile treatment powder into my shampoo, as recommended, with excellent results. It has been helping to normalize my finicky scalp.
  • The Jurlique Wrinkle Sofening Cream is an excellent moisturizer for dry skin. I’m not certain why I haven’t shared this product yet, though I feel a review is certainly in order. This is my second tube and a go-to for when I’m in need of extra moisture. In considering the recent weather conditions here in New York, I’ve been reaching for this one regularly.
